when i say the summer buzzes

when i say the summer buzzes / i mean the cicadas scream all night / hell, part of the day, and the frogs / make a cacophony of vibrations, so much / that you gotta pop the window open a hair / and let it wash on over your hot, sticky skin-you ain't never slept so good, lulled to sleep / by the army of insects and creatures calling to each other; they got a party line, ya know / grandma always said, it's elmer on the tin roof / calling howdy y'all to his buddies / when the croaks deafened the night
